Is it time to go offline for a bit?
This past year was a whirlwind for me, to say the least. I worked through grief over the passing of my father and some big shifts with my family. All the challenging parts also had elements of beauty, and… it brought up a lot for me to “sit with”.
So that’s what I decided to do this summer… I went off-line and sat in silence to give myself some time to really listen to everything that had been coming up for me in life.
What did that look like?
Well, I was invited to join a 10-day silent meditation retreat in South Africa with a dear Yogi sister friend of mine. I felt like I couldn’t say no to this opportunity. It’s something I’d never done, but had been really called to do for awhile. So, I’ve decided to go half way across the world to take the time for myself to see what parts in my life needed a little bit more care and attention. Little crazy, huh?
Yeah, I thought so too and didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. It was truly a grand adventure. I stayed at a beautiful retreat space just outside of Cape Town with a group of 20 people who has various different experiences with meditation and being in silence. There were some that had never meditated before (that blew my mind)! There were some that were working through grief and addiction (just like me). There were some that were just looking for a “new experience.” Whatever the reason, everyone that took part in the retreat was committed to doing the work it took to stay in a seated meditation space, silent, for 10 full days. When we broke silence and people started sharing their experiences, I could see a part of myself in each of them. We are all working on our “stuff.” And what a beautiful thing that is.
Hopefully this is a moment of encouragement to take even small amounts of time in silence to see what comes up for you. To see what might need a little more attention in your life.
I have some fun summer offerings that I can’t wait to share more of my experiences with you! Join me in-person in Sedona for yoga or come in for a personalized retreat. You can also hop into the virtual Yoga Deep Dive Membership and dial in your daily practice. Love to have you experience moments of silence together.
Sending you so many well wishes,
