Full System Reboot
Do you ever feel like your body is asking for a full system reboot?
Like you know that some shifts and changes need to happen, but you don’t know exactly what needs to shift? Or you’re not sure exactly what that would even look like?
There were SO many years that I felt like that. To the outside world, and even my close friends, I was “healthy” and had such a good regimen to my life… yet, I was exhausted all the time. I could feel that my mindset wasn’t helpful to my longterm health either, but I didn’t know exactly how to shift it.
That’s about the time I had a friend of mine, who introduced me to the principles of Ayurveda (the study of life), tell me that one small mindset shift each day could be all that my body needed to feel better in my body. Then I was able to see things a little differently. My life didn’t necessarily need a whole makeover, but doing one thing each day that supported my body’s health was plenty. So then I committed to certain daily practices that were helpful my overall health goal and not seeing them as tasks I need to get done.
What did this look like for me?
Pretty much my whole life, I've been an avid runner. I ran at least 3-4 miles each day. And if I didn't get it in for some reason, my whole day was thrown off. In my mind, I thought, "you HAVE to get a run in before work."
Then I started to shift that mindset to, "I GET to go for a run today!" That allowed me to not be so attached to whether the run actually happened or not.
Now I allow myself to start a little slower each morning and the days that I do go for a run, I'm so much more present with my body and the nature around me. I enjoy it on such a different level. I can tell that my body really appreciates this more dedicated and yet relaxed approach.
Join me this month and let’s give ourselves permission to do one small mindset shift each day to approach our health and wellness in a whole new way. No guilt, no shame, just a commitment to make a little shift (even if that’s just the mindset behind our behavior) to be a healthier version of ourselves.
There are lots of fun ways to join me this Fall. Catch me at any of my in-person classes in Sedona or check out the virtual Yoga Deep Dive community that will support you in committing to a home yoga practice. Also, I’ll be presenting an Ayurvedic talk on detox at the Sedona Yoga Festival the first weekend in October. Fall is gonna be a fabulous month to reboot the system… one small shift at a time.
I would love to support you on this journey to feel really good in your body each day.
Small mindset shift => system reboot
Ever feel like it's all or nothing when it comes to your health choices? Like, you're either being really good and regimented with your life and health choices... or forget it. It's a free for all. There is no discernment of what would be helpful or not for your body?
There are SO many ways to do small daily “reboots” that keep you feeling fairly balanced when everything feels derailed.
Being an avid runner my whole life, there was always this great drive behind keeping my physical body healthy. It never occurred to me to see how my mind was affected by that drive. Like if I wasn’t able to get on a run because of a work meeting or cause I just didn’t have enough energy to get out of bed at 5am, the whole day I was grumpy. Annoyed. Irritated. At myself, at life, and people around me.
Then I really started to listen and hear how my body was talking to me each day. There were days that it was asking for more rest, so I would give myself more time to relax in the morning. That allowed me to start the day with less rigidity. Then if my body is feeling like more vigorous movement (outside of my daily hikes with Leo the pup), I GET to go for a run. It feels really good and I have such a blast moving freely in my body. It isn’t a HAVE TO DO situation anymore. It’s pure fun!
What if this month, instead of throwing in the towel when it comes to your health, you committed to just making a small little mindseshifts that would allow for the body to reboot?
What would this even look like?
Find something that you do everyday you feel like you “have to do” and swap it out for “I get to do this today.” See what happens. That might be all it takes to let the system mentally (and physically) reboot. Report back. I wanna know how it goes.
Join the virtual Yoga Deep Dive this month and we’ll weave in this healthy habit to our morning practice.
