Frozen Chocolate Banana & Almond Butter Bites

This has been one of my favorite recipes that I felt like I had to share. You know those overripe bananas that you could make into banana bread, but you really could only eat so much banana bread before being over it? That’s where this recipe is perfect! Save all your overripe bananas in the fridge and every week or so, make this recipe. Trust me, it’s SO worth it.

It’s been a fan favorite for clients coming into Sedona to retreat. Eating whole foods made simple (that are delicious) is my favorite way to support people’s health. Especially my own.

As always, have fun with the recipe. Try adding some doTerra citrus oils to the banana batter. My favorites are: lemon, wild orange, or even ginger. [Also, if you’re newer to using essential oils in the kitchen, reach out and I’m happy to guide you.]

Ingredients

  • 2–3 very ripe bananas

  • ½ cup fresh almond butter

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil

  • Maldon sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  • Blend the banana + almond butter. Place the ripe bananas and almond butter in a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy.

  • Freeze. Pour the mixture into silicone molds for individual bites, or spread into a parchment-lined loaf or baking pan. Freeze for 2–3 hours, or until completely firm.

  • Make the chocolate coating. Melt the chocolate chips with the coconut oil over a double boiler or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring until smooth. The coconut oil helps thin the chocolate, making it easier to dip.

  • Cut, if needed. If using a pan, remove the frozen mixture and cut into bite-sized squares or bars. Move quickly cause they’ll start to meld pretty quickly.

  • Dip. Working quickly, dip each frozen banana-almond butter bite into the melted chocolate. Place on parchment paper.

  • Finish. Immediately sprinkle each piece with a small pinch of Maldon sea salt.

  • Freeze again for about 15–20 minutes, until the chocolate is set.

Storage: Keep frozen in an airtight container. Let sit at room temperature for a few minutes before enjoying.

Some Ayurvedic thoughts

There’s something lovely about turning these simple ingredients into a ridiculously delicious treat that feels indulgent, but you don’t have to have any guilt over it at all. The naturally sweet banana provides nourishment and grounding, while almond butter adds healthy fats and staying power. A little dark chocolate and sea salt bring in contrasting bitter, sweet, and salty flavors ~ making each bite drool worthy.

Being satisfied after a meal matters! If we can try not to  label foods as “good” or “bad,” we can enjoy each bit mindfully. Savoring the flavors and textures, and noticing when we feel pleasantly satisfied is key. Your body will tell you when you’re content, make sure you listen to when that is.
