Spring Detox Tea
This is a fun herbal tea for Spring that helps cleanse the body and prepare the body for the warmer weather. It’s my ‘go-to’ for any potlucks or social gatherings. Showing up with a delicious elixir is always a crowd pleaser.
Always make sure you buy organic herbs. I like going to my local apothecary or health food store to find the herbs… or even grow these herbs in your garden.
Here are some of my favorite qualities of these herbs:
Hibiscus is a powerful ally for clearing excess heat and supporting healthy liver function. In Ayurveda, it's often used to cool and cleanse the blood, making it a wonderful choice for balancing too much heat in the system —especially as temperatures rise. Its vibrant color and tart flavor also uplift the senses and gently stimulate digestion.
Nettles is a nourishing spring tonic rich in iron, chlorophyll, and essential minerals. They help to rebuild depleted tissues while gently stimulating elimination. In Ayurveda, nettles are considered slightly warming and drying, helping to clear stagnation in the body, especially in the sinuses and lymphatic system. Perfect for spring’s sluggish energy and those feeling heavy or congested.
Mint (Peppermint or Spearmint) awakens the senses and calms the digestive fire. Helps balance the body by invigorating the mind and clearing mental fog.
Recipe
Servings: 1-2 people
Ingredients:
1 T dried hibiscus
1 T dried nettles
1 T dried mint (peppermint or spearmint)
2 cups filtered water
Instructions:
You can use a measuring spoon or just pour out the herbs in your palm with an estimate of about a tablespoon or so of each (doesn’t have to be exact). Make sure to look and smell each of the herbs. Notice the colors and textures of each. Ask yourself, “do any of these bring up a memory for me in my life?” If so, appreciate the memory and try not to label it as positive or negative… just appreciate how it brings up something for you to see and work with.
Add all the herbs into a pot with the water. With a wood spoon, stir the herbs into the water gently. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil, then turn down heat to a simmer. Let simmer for ~10 mins. When you turn the heat off, let stand for another ~ 10 mins.
When you’re ready to try this delicious concoction, strain out herbs using a tea strainer into your favorite cup or mug. Sip on the tea throughout the day, especially in the morning and early afternoon. You can add a little sweetener of honey or maple syrup if you’d like. Also, my favorite is adding a little coconut water and a splash of spritzer… or even some lemon/lime.
Have fun with this tea!
